FENG SHUI IN SINGAPORE ARCHITECTURE: SUNTEC CITY

Suntec City was known to be designed with incorporation of feng shui consideration. The five buildings and the convention center are arranged to look like a left hand. The Fountain of Wealth appears like a golden ring in the palm of the hand. As the fountain is made of bronze, it is believed that the balance of metal and water paves the way for success. Further, the specially selected Chinese name, 新达, means "new achievement".

Beside above well-known information about this popular mall, there are still more details about it.

First of all, the layout of the towers is arranged in a manner that it capturing Wind or Qi from the South and Southeast directions. This is an important aspect in feng shui that the mall is capable of harnessing energy from natural environment. The good news for tenants of this mall is that energy of Southern direction is the auspicious energy (旺运) in the 9th Period (九运) from 2024-2043. Therefore, the mall is potentially capable to continue to thrive or do even better in the next 20 years.

Secondly, its well-known fountain of wealth is well situated to accumulate the auspicious 9th Period (九运) energy. The inward flowing of the fountain assists to “collect” and “distribute” the energy into the mall. Furthermore, the mall also allow scheduled time for visitors to enter the fountain area, this further helps to bring and trigger energy from its surrounding to this water feature.

Other interesting feng shui features about the mall, includes, the direction of the traffic flow around the fountain. The traffic flows in the clockwise direction, which is means Continuous Growth or Progress (五行洛书左旋相生).

In addition, five towers not just look like fingers of a hand, it also represent number Five which is Earth Element (土). When match with the fountain, there is presence of two important element, Earth and Water. Both Earth and Water are two important elements in pursuit of continuous growth and thrive.

To highlight importance of these two elements, it is commonly known in Metaphysics (玄学) that all four seasons must goes through a period of earth element in order to transition from one season to the next (辰戌丑未月). Moreover, in LuoShu HeTu (洛书 河图), Water element is assigned as first element and is deemed as prerequisite for growth of the rest of the elements.

Interestingly, to avoid the conflict between Earth and Water element (土克水), a metallic ring structure is installed above the fountain. Metallic structure with circular shape represents Metal element. With this, Water and Earth elements (土生金, 金生水) are harmonized. As you can see by now, all these feng shui considerations are cleverly done and designed.

To conclude, Suntec mall is indeed well designed with feng shui considerations, well-intended for continuous progress and growth. With these feng shui designs in place, the mall indeed has good potential to receive more good years and businesses.
